Update (1/25)

I submitted another update to itunes last night, fixed a handful of things that should provide better performance overall.

new in version 1.2:

  1. Memory leak fixed in reader interface
  2. Reworked Cover Previews in issues table, used to use the full size first page and sized it down to fit in the table... caused memory issues and killed performance of the app with more than 4 or 5 issues in the table. NOW, new version of the client app will send a smaller size cover preview to the phone along with the full size pages. If the new smaller size cover isnt found, a placeholder "cover not found" image is displayed instead.
  3. Added a preference bundle with a slider allowing you to turn on/off cover previews. This is located in the main iPhone Preferences App.

still working on:

  1. Trying to get a response from the iTunes team about what is acceptable for a feature-limited free version... this has been very frustrating, and has been like pulling teeth to get any info from the iTunes folks... but i'll get something out there eventually
  2. I've got the basic foundation for a new Importing mechanism for getting your comics on the iPhone. Basically, when you have the Desktop client running it will broadcast what comics it has available to send. On your phone when you tap import, you'll be presented with this list and you'll select from this list which comics you want to import.

Also I've got an OSX 10.4.x (tiger) version of the Mac Client available now as well.

Feature Development- New Import Mechanism

So I've started working on a new method for getting your comics to the iPhone/iPod.  The idea I'm running with is to have the Mac/PC client to be constantly broadcasting what files it has available to share.  Pull Lists on the iPhone would pick up on this when you hit the currently existing "Import" button.  It would then present you with a list of available comics to upload, select a comic... hit upload... and voila upload starts.

considering also to remove all forms of interface blocking during the upload, so that it would just process in the backgroud while you are running the app(naturally the upload would be cancelled if you quit the app).  Pending & current uploads would display in the interface as would comics already existing on the iPhone, but with some visual indication (font color, italics, icon) that they are either currently uploading or pending upload.

I'm currently working out all the details on just HOW i'm going to do this, but so far it seems very do-able.  I'll keep you all posted on how this progresses.

Bug Fix (1/16/09)

Just identified a major memory leak involved in the page view.  Leak is now closed and this should solve the majority of the crashing issues... preliminary testing hasnt seen a single crash since fixing the leak.  Unfortunately I didnt find this before pushing out the last update which just hit the app store yesterday.  I'll be sending this next update to apple tomorrow and hopefully you all will see it on iTunes within a few days of that.

01-09-2009 Update

All Right! Pull Lists has been on the app store for nearly 2 weeks so far! It has seen a fair amount of traffic, but it looks like I'll still need to do some advertising of sorts to increase its visibility on iTunes. I did stumble across this review this morning: http://www.appvee.com/t/pull-lists  and I'd like to thank AppVee for the nice review!

The first update for Pull Lists on the iPhone should be available any day now, just waiting for apple to approve it.

A new version of Pull Lists Library on the mac is now also available here.  This update includes fixes for most file handling within the App, improved speed of exports to the iPhone, more reliable formatting of images for the iPhone.  Also included is a fix for the Sparkle updater bundled w/in the application, which allows for simple updating of the application.  While those of you who have version 1.0.1 of Pull Lists Library will not be able to successfully update to the current(1.0.2) version, you will be able to just download the new version from the link above... then following updates should be able to be accessed directly thru the Pull Lists Library application itself.

In a further effort to make the use of these applications easier and more easy to understand, i've included some video's of both Importing comics to the Mac client and exporting comics from the mac client to the iPhone.  You can see both of these here at the Pull Lists Library page

12-26 update

ok update time...

Pull Lists on the iPhone has been submitted to the app store, YAY!  After a small round of emails back and forth w/the apple folks, i'm now hoping to see it hit the app store before new years.

Pull Lists Library, i'm working on some stability issues and some other backend processing.  There should be a version update on this w/in a week or so.
